Dear Parents:
As the new principal of Roosevelt Elementary school, I am pleased to introduce myself. I have spent the majority of my life working with youth. For the last eight years, I taught fifth and/or sixth grade at Highwood Hills Elementary School located on the east side of St. Paul. Prior to that, I spent six years as a Juvenile Counselor and a Juvenile Correctional Officer with Hennepin County. As a teenager, I was a camp counselor at a church camp close to my hometown. It was while I was in these roles that I became interested in pursuing a career in education where I could continue to work with the young minds of the future along side other professionals who are dedicated to the enrichment of children.
In assuming the role of Principal at Roosevelt, I am impressed with the commitment to excellence held by the staff. The students have greeted me with smiles, handshakes, and welcoming hugs. Parents and family members have been warm and welcoming too. Roosevelt is fortunate to have such a strong connection with community groups and I look forward to working with this strong community as we continue to move forward as a school.
I value the potential of all children, believing that all of our young people are good. They have a natural curiosity in wanting to learn and have fun in the process. If we at Roosevelt can create an environment where kids feel they belong and are valued members, each person, child and staff, will be on the way to reach their hopes and dreams.
I look forward to getting to know you and trust that each of us involved in the success of Roosevelt will continue to support one another as we move forward in educating our children.
Sincerely yours, Scott Tryggeseth, Principal
