The First Grade Team at Roosevelt consists of five wonderful teachers: Ms. Anglum, Ms. Joy, Ms. Romo, Ms. Yang and Ms. Johnson the ELL teacher. We are having fun and learning a lot in first grade this year. Learning to read, add, subtract, and become good writers keeps us very busy.

In first grade, one of our main focuses is learning to read. Our students are building their reading skills in Success For All.  This 90 minute reading program groups students by ability providing the support each child needs while challenging them at the same time.

We are also working very hard developing our math skills. Math skills are taught using the Everyday Math Curriculum which emphasizes many hands-on, fun activities and games. The first graders have enjoyed learning about numeration, addition, subtraction, measurement, patterning, and numerous games so far this year.

In addition to reading and math, social studies, science, spelling, and writing are also an important part of our day. However, our day would not be complete without rotating to physical education, music, science, social studies, and library once a week for prep.
